Each doll was meticulously dressed by the specific order of nuns it represents, providing a glimpse into a time when these religious orders were flourishing. Many of these convents and religious orders have since disappeared, but these dolls serve as a beautiful reminder of their legacy.

The story behind this extraordinary collection dates back to the 1950s when Laura Deming, a passionate lecturer on religious orders, began collecting dolls from various orders to inspire young women to join these orders in the United States and beyond. Today, there are over 90 dolls in the collection, each adorned in its own distinct habit, making it a truly one-of-a-kind display.

The journey to uncover this hidden gem began when the owners of Madonna shops, Ed and Marge Kristy learned of its existence through conversations with priest and nun friends. After tracking down the collection, they were astonished by the authentic detail of the garments and the sheer size of the collection. Despite some dolls being damaged by insects and rodents while in storage, the beauty and historical significance of these nun-dolls remain unmatched.

For 13 years, the collection was exhibited in the archdiocese of Los Angeles, and now it has found a new home in the archdiocese of San Bernardino. We are thrilled to share this heavenly body of little nuns with you, and we hope you enjoy and appreciate this unique piece of history.
